Ready, Set, Go -- Colonial Spy!!

This week in Gifted, the 5^th graders jumped into the Colonial Spy seminar and began learning the importance of paying attention to detail and being specific when giving directions or reading a map.  We did this by completing some map activities as well participating in a teambuilding activity where specific students were blindfolded in the classroom and had to listen to directions from teammates to get from one place to another. We also began working on learning our first secret code – the Patriot Spy Code.  This was a code actually used by Revolutionary Soldiers and is quite a challenge to decode.

Goal Setting - Voki Assignment

We have been discussing "goal setting" in the Gifted classroom and how everyone can make improvements somewhere in their lives.  We've also discussed how creating steps for a goal, no matter how big or small, can really help students achieve those goals.

Students logged on to the website called "Voki" to create an avatar to state their goal.  It was a creative way to help students put a voice to their specific goals.  Take a look...

Welcome 5th Graders!!

It was a great first week introducing students to the Gifted Program here at East Norriton Middle School.  All of the students seemed excited to be here and ready to start thinking!  :)

Student detectives tackled the end of the CSI seminar activity today, the Great Kermit Caper!

 

Anatomy of a Crime Activity

Student detectives were hard at work this week, focusing on trying to solve a murder case.  Evidence stations were set up around the classroom, and students had to examine each piece of evidence to try to figure out exactly what happened!

Student Laywers - CSI

Students became lawyers last week in a CSI assignment.  Students were placed on either the prosecution or the defense in a trial accusing SpongeBob SquarePants or murder.  Students did a great job arguing the case and really paying attention to the details of the evidence.
